- Article 1 In accordance with Article 7 of the Feng Chia University Library Collection Acquisition and Establishment Operation Directives, and to maintain the quality of the collection and enhance its utilization, these operational guidelines are hereby formulated.
- Article 2 Any data registered by the library and included in the collection as property, meeting the criteria outlined in these operational guidelines, may undergo elimination and disposal accordingly.
- Article 3 The disposal criteria are based on the condition of the collection and storage space issues, with the following prioritized order:
- Book materials:
- Missing pages, damaged beyond repair, with no preservation value.
- Suspected intellectual property concerns.
- Outdated or no longer of reference value, such as computer tools (published over 10 years ago), travel guides (published over 10 years ago), educational guides (published over five years ago), organization directories (published over five years ago), etc.
- Exceeding the duplicate copy principles (five copies for Chinese books, two copies for Western books).
- More than two sets of the same series.
- Replacement available with a new edition.
- Attachments accompanying the disposed books are also to be discarded.
- Audio-visual materials:
- Unclear, jumping, or damaged sound or image rendering making it unusable.
- Suspected intellectual property concerns.
- Loss of timeliness and preservation value.
- Replaced by new editions or other media formats.
- Unable to be used due to lack of corresponding equipment.
- Periodical materials:
- Redundant copies in the collection.
- Donated by government agencies or educational institutions, where full texts can be accessed online.
- Outdated or scattered issues with no preservation value.
- Book materials:
- Article 4 The total annual disposal of the collection should not exceed 3% of the total library holdings across the university as a principle.
- Article 5 The disposed collection must be marked in the library's automated system, and a list of reduced book assets for the academic year should be provided to relevant university units.
- Article 6 The guidelines were adopted at the Library Affairs Meeting and approved by the President before being promulgated and implemented. The same applies to amendments.
These Guidelines were translated from the original Chinese version. In the event of any discrepancies between the two versions, the Chinese version always takes precedence.
