- Feng Chia University (hereinafter referred to as the university) formulates these directives to encourage full-time faculty members to create digital teaching materials, promoting diverse teaching and application methods.
- Implementation:
- Digital teaching materials, as referred to in these directives, are materials created by individual teachers or collectively developed by the university.
- Digital teaching materials should be used for on-campus credit courses and may also be offered as open online courses accessible externally.
- These materials must be hosted on the university's designated platform, providing access for both on-campus and off-campus learners.
- Principles of material design:
- Teaching content should utilize technologies such as audio, video, presentations, or animations.
- For online courses, materials should be divided into several small units, with each focusing on specific learning concepts or knowledge points. Traditional class recordings are not recommended.
- The total duration of video materials for each course should generally range from six to eighteen hours, complemented by assessments, interactive discussions, assignments, etc.
- Materials must comply with copyright laws and intellectual property regulations. Priority should be given to using Creative Commons licenses or Open Educational Resources (OERs). If content falls outside these categories, proper authorization from copyright holders should be obtained.
- Application and subsidies for material creation:
- Full-time faculty members or teachers invited by individual colleges to create distinctive courses should submit a "Digital Learning Course Outline" according to the library's announced schedule. After review and approval by departmental and college-level curriculum committees, the proposals will be submitted to the library for evaluation by the review committee and then presented to the Academic Affairs Council for final approval.
- Subsidies for creating digital teaching materials include assistance during the creation period, hourly fees for recording after completion, and the provision of a teaching assistant for the first offering of a new course. Each subsidy is provided once per new course. Detailed subsidy information is provided in the appendix.
- For externally offered open online courses, teaching assistants and online teaching support fees are provided during the course period. Detailed subsidy information is provided in the appendix.
- Authorization and promotion of materials:
- Recipients of subsidies are required to submit progress reports and supporting documentation, contribute to course management and promotion, participate in experience-sharing seminars, and engage in activities such as observing digital learning courses. This is done to share their experiences and achievements.
- The exclusive intellectual property rights of completed courses or teaching materials belong to the university, while moral rights remain with the original creator.
- If instructors wish to use their digital teaching materials for external paid or free use, they must apply to the Academic Affairs Office for approval. Subsequent usage of the same materials requires reapplication for authorization.
- The promotion and management of digital teaching materials are led by the Office of Industry-Academia Collaboration and Promotion. Fees for charged courses are handled in accordance with the university's guidelines for promoting education and are subject to fund allocation and use.
- After the creation and completion of digital teaching materials, instructors are required to fill out the "Feng Chia University Digital Teaching Material Course Evaluation Form." This form is submitted to the department-level curriculum committee for review and to recommend outstanding teaching materials, exceptional teachers, and to provide teacher evaluations.
- The directives were adopted at the Administrative Meeting and approved by the President before being promulgated and implemented. The same applies to amendments.
These Directives were translated from the original Chinese version. In the event of any discrepancies between the two versions, the Chinese version always takes precedence.
